Thousand Trails, Peace River

Thousand Trails, Peace River – Wauchula, FL

Another Thousand Trails park, which requires membership.  Maybe it was the time of year, maybe it was the weather, I’m not sure why – but this has been our favorite campground so far! The weather was cool, we had a site right along the river bank, and we rode our bicycles through the trail along the river.  Sometimes, maybe you remember a place differently depending on whether or not you enjoyed yourself.  Well, we enjoyed ourselves here!  Hoping to return before our membership expires.

UPDATE:  We did get back here before the end of our membership year.  Still a great place.  In November, there were more people in the sites along the river, but we still had no problem getting a spot.  Saturdays there are day campers panning in the river for fossils.  This trip, the river was crystal clear. So, you could see if an alligator was anywhere nearby.  A little too cold for me, though.  The sites could use more cleaning/maintenance.  But, we still love this place.

  • POPULATION:  Lots of RV’s in the front full hook-up sites, but not many in the back near the river.  These sites did not have sewer, so less popular for long-term occupants.
  • CLEANLINESS:  Bathhouse and laundry were clean.  Sites were grass & dirt.
  • SITES:  Lots of big trees in the back, good size sites, no privacy between sites.
  • AMENITIES:  Peace River runs right along the back of the park.  You can kayak or take a small boat.  The weekend we were here, the Tampa Archeological Society was here wading in the river looking for artifacts, like sharks teeth.  Mind you, this river has Alligators, and big ones!  Crazy!  There is also a walking/bike path along the river.
