Sebastian Inlet SP

Can you see a Noseeum?  (No-see-um)  The answer is yes!  And you can feel them too!!!  They are tiny little insects that bite as hard as a mosquito.  Well, there were so many Noseeums at the campsite when we arrived that within minutes of getting out of the truck our legs were covered.  We have these nasty critters at our house, but there were more here than I’d ever seen before.  We setup outside as quickly as possible, then got inside.  We started a fire, but even that didn’t deter them.  I fixed our dinner inside and only went outside to put the foil packets on the fire, then ran back inside until it was time to turn them.  And you have to brush off your arms & legs before going back in, so you don’t bring them with you.  Oh what fun!  During the night, a cold front came through with some fairly high winds.  So, by the next morning, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous view here!  There were still a few biting creatures, but they were tolerable.

If it were not for the bugs, this would be a really nice place.  Sites along the water have spectacular views of the inlet, but are very close together with very little vegetation – just an occasional tree.  Sites along the back are much larger and are backed by thick vegetation, but they have no view of the water.  All the sites have water and electric, but no sewer.  Your camping fee includes admission to the parks at both sides of the inlet (north & south).  But, you’d have to drive out of the south side, where the campground is, to get to the north side.  The park has pavilions which showcase bands on Saturday nights about once a month.  The north side has a swimming lagoon, cafe, bait shop, and long jetty which is a favorite of area fisherman.  There are also surfing competitions from time to time.

This is such a pretty place with so much to offer.  I just don’t know when the Noseeums are tolerable.
