Ginnie Springs – near Gainsville, FL
If you can, visit this park during the week in the summertime. Weekends are overrun by college kids and it becomes a big frat party. But when the kids aren’t there, it is a beautiful place. Bring a tube or raft for each person. You get into the water at several small springs which all feed into the Sante Fe River. From there, you can meander down the river and get out at one of the last springs in the park. It rained while we were there, but we don’t seem to mind that when we’re camping. 🙂
- POPULATION: Families and couples during the week, lots of college kids on the weekends in the summer.
- CLEANLINESS: Bathrooms are decent and accessible. On the weekends, they get really busy, though, so try to get in them before the crowds.
- SITES: The sites have a fair amount of vegetation between them and quite a bit of shade, but are all grass or dirt. The sites have water & electric, but no sewer,
- AMENITIES: The dump station which was muddy in the rain. Nice general store that sells clothing & a wide assortment of rafts/tubes. It also has free air hoses to blow up your tubes. The main attraction is the springs and river. Again, these get busy on the weekends in the summer.
