Curry Hammock State Park – Marathon, Florida Keys

Nice little park, but not good for the dead of summer.  We were there in early July and it was hot!  To top that off, our A/C went out in the camper and in the truck – at the same time!  The water here is shallow and very grassy and, in July, hot!  There was no where to cool off except to get in the truck and drive to a store or restaurant – not much like camping.  Even the showers in the bathhouse were hot.  This might be a really nice park when its just a little cooler.  It really is a pretty little park.

  • POPULATION:  Small park, so it feels empty even when it’s not.  Less crowds than other state parks in the area.
  • CLEANLINESS:  Bathrooms are composting – so the bathhouses are at the top of a long staircase and are situated above the pile.  Other than this feature, the bathrooms are clean.
  • SITES:  The sites have a fair amount of vegetation between them and some are shadier than others.  No wood fires, only charcoal. No dumps at sites.
  • AMENITIES:  The sites have water & electric, but no sewer.  There is a dump station that is easily accessible.  There is a nice beach, but there is very little water with a sandy bottom, it is mostly grassy and cloudy.  There are some small pavilions for day guest use, as well.  Good kayaking, but too grassy for snorkeling.
