Wow! This month marks 1 year that we’ve had our camper. In that time we’ve gone camping 19 times! That averages about once every 3 weeks! That’s a lot of camping. 🙂
We are starting to plan our 2017 trips and have decided that every 3-4 weeks is good. Sometimes, we had been so anxious to get away that we went camping only 2 weeks after our last trip. That’s great, except that there are other demands on our time that don’t appreciate all this camping. 🙁 It’s all good, though. Taking a trip every 3 weeks is hardly “roughing it”!
Some of our trips this year will be back to places we fell in love with last year. But, we’d also like to try some new campgrounds. Part of the fun of camping is exploring new places, right? We’ll also be checking out the big RV show in Tampa this month. That should be fun!
We also have a trip planned to Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys. If you aren’t familiar, this campground is SUPER popular. To get a spot here, you have to be diligent and lucky! I sat at my computer for over a week at 8AM each day trying to click on a reservation at just the right time, only to be “out-clicked” by someone else. Then one morning, I clicked and it asked me to sign in. At first I thought it had kicked me out, but I went ahead and signed in anyway and “voila” we got a spot. Woo hoo! It’s like winning the lottery!
When we bought our trailer last year, we got a complimentary one year membership to Thousand Trails. While we really liked the Thousand Trails parks in our area, we’ll be taking a break from them this year. When you have a TT membership, you really want to focus on staying in those parks so that you can get your money’s worth. Since we stayed in those parks 4 times last year, we will look for new places this year.
One of the places we will definitely try to get to is Long Point Park in Sebastian, FL. We had a reservation there this year, but it happened to be the weekend that Hurricane Matthew came to visit. So, we wound up evacuating to River Ranch, instead.
Another place we’ve heard of is Kelly Park in Apopka, FL. I understand you can float down the river, similar to Ginnie Springs in High Springs, FL.
If you have any ideas for great places for us to try in Florida, we’d love to hear them!
